The perfect balance for your garden. Our 50/50 blend combines our premium double-screened topsoil with nutrient-rich compost to create the ultimate ready-to-plant growing medium.

This mix is ideal for filling raised beds, planting trees and shrubs, establishing new borders, and growing vegetables or flowers. It gives your plants an immediate nutrient boost while providing a strong, lasting foundation for healthy roots.

Why Choose a 50/50 Blend?

To get the best results in your garden, you need both structure and nutrients. Our blend gives you the best of both worlds:

  • The Topsoil (For Structure & Volume): Topsoil provides essential mineral components (sand, silt, and clay) that do not decompose. This gives your beds structural integrity. If you fill a deep bed with 100% compost, the organic matter gets eaten by microbes and compacts over time, causing the soil level to drop by up to 50%. The topsoil in this blend acts as the anchor, keeping your soil levels consistent year after year.
  • The Compost (For Nutrients & Conditioning): Compost provides the active organic matter. It boosts microbial life and delivers essential nutrients directly to your plants. Crucially, the compost helps break up the natural clay found in the topsoil, improving drainage and stopping the soil from drying out and baking hard during warm weather.

Important Information & Disclaimers

  • Germination & Seedlings: Because this blend contains topsoil (which naturally contains clay), the surface can form a slight crust as it dries. While excellent for established plants, shrubs, and hardy vegetables, it can make it difficult for tiny shoots to break through. If you are germinating delicate seeds, we highly recommend using a dedicated seed-starting mix or straight compost for a lighter surface.
  • Weed Expectations: Because this blend contains topsoil (which does not undergo a high-temperature seed-killing stage like compost), dormant seeds may be present. While this is standard for topsoil products across the industry, we want to ensure your expectations are set correctly. You may need to treat for weeds once laid.
  • Disclaimer: Some of these materials are sourced from previous use and undergo a detailed shredding and screening process. Although recycling is a great practice, we cannot always provide a 100% guarantee that some unwanted materials/microplastics won't make their way into the final product. In case of sharp objects, it is recommended that you always wear thick gloves when handling compost.
