These sleepers are tanalised (pressure treated) for general outdoor use. However, they are not officially certified to Use Class 3 (C3) or Use Class 4 (C4) standards.
Strictly speaking, C4-rated timber should be used where direct ground contact is involved — such as retaining walls, structural landscaping, or fence posts. That said, many of our customers do use these sleepers for raised beds, edging, and similar garden projects where they are in contact with the ground, as they offer a much more cost-effective option compared to certified C4 timber.
We just like to be upfront: these sleepers are not guaranteed for long-term durability in ground contact, and no warranty is given or implied regarding structural performance or lifespan in such conditions.
As a natural wood product, they will also continue to dry over time, which can lead to cracking, splitting, and movement — all part of the normal weathering process and not considered defects.
Please take these points into account when planning your project, and use at your discretion based on your specific needs.
